Myth or a fact? For many years, people have had mixed opinions whether green tea is beneficial for fat loss or not. Let’s take a look at the most up to date science…

Key Facts

How does Green Tea work for fat loss?

Experimental studies have clarified…

Green tea containing caffeine and catechins, particularly EGCG, enhanced sympathetic activation, produced an increase in fat oxidation, and led to an increase of 24-hour energy expenditure due to thermogenesis.

The other suggested mechanisms involving the useful effects of green tea on people with obesity is desensitizing insulin-resistant muscles and also increasing adiponectin levels (Naderi Nabi et al., 2018).

Green Tea does encourage fat loss.

Good news for you.

Dutch scientists established that humans burn more than5 grams of fat extra for every cup of green tea consumed, according to a meta-analysis published by Rick Hursel in Obesity Reviews (Hursel et al., 2011).

Hursel was even able to calculate how much extra fat you burn if you take a green tea supplement…

…every mg of a mixture of caffeine and green tea catechins boosted the amount of fat burnt daily by 0.02 g.

Hursel also calculated that every milligram of pure caffeine boosts fat burning by 0.01 g per day (@Suppversity).

Good news.

For every serve of green tea you drink, you boost your fat burning by 5.36g.

If you drink three cups of green tea every day for a year, that adds up to about 6kg fat…that isn’t bad at all.

And yes, Matcha likely elicits an even better response rate.
