📚LEAD (Fruit juices, certain candies, cosmetics): ⁣
Lead can attack synaptic neurotransmission in two ways: by depressing the release of GABA and Dopamine (Struzyńska, 1994). Remember that GABA is your brain’s primary inhibitory neurotransmitter, and can significantly affect anxiety/worry/paranoia levels.⁣

📚ARSENIC (Brown rice): ⁣
There is an enzyme in the brain, known as Tyrosine Hydroxylase. This converts the Tyrosine you eat from foods, downstream, eventually into Dopamine. Arsenic LOWERS this enzyme, meaning you are NOT producing as much Dopamine from your amino acid, Tyrosine (Minjeong, et al., 2014). ⁣

📚CADMIUM (Cereals, specific vegetables): ⁣
There is a clear association of blood cadmium levels with increased depressive symptoms. Cadmium can contribute to the etiology of depression through messing with the catecholamine/serotonin system. Adult male rats exposed to cadmium show a decreased content of serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine in ALL brain regions (Scinicariello & Buser, 2015).⁣
